Galletto

Our Forma Deruta is a classic of our ceramic tradition, the “scale” plate lends itself to all the classic decorations of the Italian repertoire. Here it is proposed with the hand-painted decoration of the Rooster. This symbol has very ancient roots and among the most disparate, the ancient Romans associated it with the pagan God Mercury, the typical tiles of the cockerel can in fact be found along all the roads traveled by this civilization. In Puglia in Grottaglie
and especially in Mondovì the typical earthenware of the cockerel accompanied the life of the families of these areas for a century and a half. The Romans, two thousand years ago, invaded France occupied by the Celts whom the Romans called “Gauls” because in war they wore two cocks’ wings on their helmets, a symbol of their strength. The rooster as the emblem of France derives from this pagan symbolism. The rooster as the emblem of France derives from this pagan symbolism.

The manufacture of these products is made with artisanal and non-industrial processes. Arcucci ceramic supports, glazed and decorated, with a white base, rich artisan glaze with native minerals, decorated manually with a wide range of warm and lively colors, obtained from natural oxides and with the use of different manual techniques.

The “biscuit” is made by pressing, with sophisticated automatic equipment. Forms of gypsum are used, this material, in fact, absorbs the water of the wet mass. Subsequently, the ceramic body contracts and can therefore be easily extracted from the mold. This process requires both skill and accuracy, as well as special technical training. Like porcelain, it undergoes the first firing to become a biscuit at 750-800 ° C, before being glazed and subjected to a new firing at 850-1100 ° C. The use of lower temperatures allows the majolica to produce lively and brilliant colors and glazes.
